Live-Score-API History

What began in 2016 in a focused effort to deliver a reliable football api which has grown into Live-Score-API: trusted by developers and sports products worldwide. Here are the milestones that shaped our company and product.

Company founded in Copenhagen

Live-Score-API was founded in Copenhagen, Denmark, with a clear goal: build a high-quality football API that developers and sports products can rely on.

Building the football API

We started building the product from the ground up: registration, documentation, and the first livescore endpoints that would become the core of Live-Score-API.

First customers come on board

The first customers started using Live-Score-API, confirming demand for live football data and setting the direction for the product roadmap ahead.

Free trials and fixtures for developers

We launched free trials so developers could evaluate the football API without commitment, and expanded coverage with fixtures alongside livescores, countries, and leagues.

Match events and historical data

Match events and historical match data joined the API, giving clients goals, cards, and past results: the foundation for richer livescores and analytics products.

Subscription packages and World Cup coverage

We introduced priced subscription packages and dedicated FIFA World Cup API coverage: our first major tournament push as a commercial football data API.

Malmö office becomes headquarters

We opened our company office in Malmö, Sweden, which became the headquarters of Live-Score-API and the hub for product and operations.

Standings and multilingual team names

Standings became available through the API, and we added translated team names so clients could serve football data in multiple languages.

Bulgaria office opens

We opened our Bulgaria office, expanding the team and strengthening capacity for product development, data operations, and customer support. We managed to do that thanks to all the customer who supported us during the corona pandemic when there was no football.

Lineups, players

Team lineups entered the API.

Betting odds join the feed

Pre-match and live betting odds were added to the API, giving clients richer match context for odds-powered products and analytics.

Live match commentary for the World Cup

We shipped live match commentary timelines and deepened FIFA World Cup API coverage: bringing minute-by-minute narrative data to clients building immersive football experiences.

WordPress Live Scores Plugin

We released our official WordPress livescores plugin, so WordPress sites can embed real-time football scores with a shortcode, caching, and simple API key configuration without building a custom integration.

Live standings and better developer tooling

We released live competition standings, football fantasy data, and published a customer Postman collection continuing to make football data easier to integrate and scale.
